Abbi headed to Donington Park for Round 6 of the GB3 Championship. The Rodin Cars Ambassador hit the ground solidly in testing with a pair of P4’s and strong pace in the run-up to Qualifying.
Saturday morning saw Abbi set the 4th fastest time in Q1 – delivering her best time in the dying seconds to secure a second-row start for Race 1.
Into the closing stages of Q2, a red flag came out just at the wrong time – denying Abbi a chance to improve her lap time whilst others just managed too, leaving her with the 11th fastest time.
This meant she would line up for Race 1 in P4, Race 2 in P10 – after penalties were applied, and a P6 start for Race 3.
In Race 1, Abbi made a great launch to vault herself into P3 and even challenge for the lead on the inside into Turn 1. Despite having to survive a mid-race scare when a rival outbraked himself at the Melbourne Hairpin, a consistent drive secured her podium position to the chequered flag - crossing the line in a well-deserved P3.
Race 2 on Saturday morning saw Abbi move into P9 in the opening lap, before an early Safety Car was deployed. She maintained position and kept the pressure on the cars infront – before a second interruption into the closing stages.
Abbi made a great second restart and challenged for P8, which almost paid off. Ultimately, she held position on her worst set of tyres in her allocation to secure a solid P9 finish at the flag.
In the third and final race of the weekend, Abbi started from P6 and made another great start – launching herself into P3 after a brave move around the outside to pull herself into podium contention.
Abbi latched onto the fight for the lead, and as the two battled ahead – Abbi made a fantastic move around the outside of Coppice to take the lead!
She held her own despite having dirty tyres, battling for numerous corners before a lunge into the final corner demoted her back to P2.
Abbi challenged again for the lead throughout the Craner Curves, before a slightly wide moment saw her drop back to P3.
Abbi kept the pressure on to the flag, consistently in the DRS of the cars ahead in the fight for the win, finishing in 3rd position to secure her second podium of the weekend – capping of a fantastic Donington Park weekend!
Abbi Pulling:
"Considering the tough season we have had it was great to come away with a double podium!
This weekend I have proven again I am able deliver these results on merit, fight for the win and show that no matter the circuit or condition - I can perform at the front.
I feel I maximised pretty much everything in the races. Despite being unlucky with the red flags in Q2, me and my team worked really hard and managed to bounce back strongly.
I made three great launches, I was positive, aggressive, always going forwards and I really enjoyed racing this weeekend! Coming home with two trophies was an awesome result.
There's a couple of rounds to go. six more races and I will keep pushing to end the season on a high - it's not how you start, it's how you finish!
A huge thank you to all the hard work this weekend by Rodin Motorsport and support from Rodin Cars, alongside all my amazing partners and my family for being here this weekend!
Lastly I really appreciated all the fans who came to say hello, take some selfies and gave me so much support!"
After a mid-season plagued by bad luck and misfortunate, Abbi bounced back in style!
She will next be in racing action at Brands Hatch GP, for the penultimate round of the GB3 Championship on the 25th-27th September and the final UK event of the season.
